It provides 8 tips and tricks to build a quality following on Twitter (i.e. not spammers). While the tricks are all for Twitter, the principles apply to Facebook and LinkedIn.
But special tips for Brand Mechanics fans: in addition to following the principles in the article, I’ve found the best tactical way to build followers in LinkedIn is by having a well-moderated group in an unexploited niche discovered via search marketing methods.
For Facebook, the trick is to ‘Like’ ads crafted in just the right way to get the desired response.
There are others but both have proven the most effective recently.
