What Is UX?
Simply put, UX is User eXperience. But what does that mean and why is it so important? User Experience is a very broad term. It can cover everything from content to how that content is laid out. Are you answering the common questions? Is your content what the user is looking for? Is your content a wall of text or is there some images that add to the context of your text? These are the types of questions that you need to ask yourself when crafting content.
Many of these problems are a result of poor conversion practices and can be improved by conversion rate optimization.
Persona Creation
A common and very useful tactic for crafting your user experience is to create a persona based on your target audience. Determine their name, age, interests and more. Are they married? Have kids? The more detail you can come up with the better.
Once you have your ideal customer, or maybe two or three, go through your content as that user. Grandma Maggie may get confused by fancy interaction features. If something needs to be clicked on, even if it’s super obvious, it won’t be clicked on by Maggie because she’s just looking to read. On the other hand, techie Justin might be impressed by some fancier elements to display your content and he’s more willing to interact with your content.
How Does An Improved User Experience Lead To Better Business?
Why do users prefer Google over Bing? Netflix over Hulu? Digital marketing experts spend hundreds, maybe thousands of hours trying to craft the perfect user experience because a positive experience means users will perform the tasks you want them to perform.
Google provides the most accurate experience. Google and Bing both have access to the exact same content and even a very similar user interface. But users know that in order to have the best chance of finding what they are looking for, they should use Google. Netflix, on the other hand, has the most high quality content out of all the various streaming services. It has content not available on other services. Both services are very easy to use which is essential when crafting a successful user experience.
These advantages over competitors are both versions of user experience and lead to a growing user base.
